[Platoro Valley Lodge & Cabins]
NEWSLETTER 2008
We had another great season in '07, thanks to all of our friends who return to see us year after year and all who visited us for the first time. We hope you all come back to enjoy the Platoro area with us in '08. We were sorry we missed some of you when it was necessary for us to be away for a time in July. We're posting this newsletter only on our website this year due to the high cost of postage.

If you haven't been to Platoro, you have missed one of the truly beautiful spots in the Colorado Rockies. We are surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, pristine forests of pine, spruce, and aspen, fields of wildflowers, abundant wildlife, and beautiful streams and lakes within minutes. There are numerous hiking trails in the area and plenty of roads and trails to explore on your ATV. The Aspen fall colors are spectacular in our area.

We had below average snowfall last winter but heavier than normal spring rains which kept stream flows strong most of the summer. Fishing seemed a little spotty at times, but was generally very good throughout the summer. A number of nice sized Browns were caught in the Conejos River as well as Platoro Reservoir. Snowfall this winter has been heavy so far (6' by January) and promises a great run-off this spring if it continues.

We still get a good slice of the wildlife in our little corner of the world here -- we saw the usual family of foxes again that wander through town. They are not bashful around people at all. Deer and elk can be spotted pretty often here and there and along the roads. Of course, there are plenty of squirrels around, they sometimes make themselves right at home - coming in the doors if we forget and leave them open. They seem to be especially fond of Snickers bars!

We're anxious to start a new season in May and hope you plan to join us in Platoro. Our toll-free number is active and forwarded to our winter home in San Angelo, Tx, so give us a call to make your reservations early. Unfortunately, we find it necessary to raise our rates slightly this year for the first time in 5 years. Our utility and operating costs have gone up just like everyone else's.

If you are planning a group function, we encourage you to make reservations early to get the time you want, and we can discuss rates, depending upon the size of your party. We welcome family reunions, weddings, retreats, meetings, or just friends getting together.
Hunters - our hunting area is 80, 81 and we'd like to invite you to come up and stay with us. We plan to be in Platoro through the second rifle season this year (10/18-10/26). Remember our 7-day stay - get 1 day free applies during hunting season, too.

We continue to strive to provide clean, comfortable, well equipped cabins for your comfort and we still provide our popular FREE breakfast bar to guests.

We got our public laundry and shower up and running last year, and it was a big hit! We also have WiFi available now for a small fee, and we still repair tires - up to 17" rims.

Whatever your outdoor interests are, you will find them in Platoro. Come up and see us this year in the cool mountain air of Colorado!
